New Exchange Updates Released (June 2016)

On Tuesday, Microsoft released the latest round of quarterly Exchange updates

Exchange 2016 CU2
Exchange 2013 CU13

A quick overview of the changes included in the updates are as follows:

  • Exchange 2013 and 2016 will now support .NET 4.6.1.
  • SHA-2 support has been added to New-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet.
  • AutoReseed now supports BitLocker.
  • Get-ExchangeServer cmdlet has been updated to include the Exchange 2016 ServerRole definitions.
  • The public folder migration issue that could cause data loss has been resolved.
  • CU2 for Exchange 2016 has updated the way DAG activation preferences works.
Exchange 2016 CU 2 DOES include updates to AD. These updates will be applied automatically during setup. Exchange 2013 CU 13 does NOT include updates to AD, but it may add additional RBAC definitions.
I noticed that in the announcement there is no mention of Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2007. After a bit of digging I found that Microsoft released Exchange 2010 UR14 and Exchange 2007 UR20 as part of the MS16-079 security update.Exchange 2010 UR 14
Exchange 2007 UR 20A reminder that it’s always a good idea to install these updates in a test environment before deploying to a production environment. This helps you plan the update and find any issues that may be caused by the update.
